Dr. Sabrina Lei
Dr. Sabrina Lei is a young Italian philosopher-poet.
She has an M.A. in modern philosophy and a PhD in ancient philosophy and has contributed enormously to the Italian cultural and literary space through her over 50 different works published in Italian in the fields as diverse as philosophy, poetry, story-telling, classics, theology, history and cultural studies.
Trained over a decade in classical Latin and Greek literature and poetry, she has translated many passages and poems from classical Greek and Latin into Italian. Her Italian translations of some of the surviving poems of two of the foremost sixth-century BC Greek poets, Alcaeus of Mytilene and Sappho, were widely appreciated for their beauty and originality.
Dr Sabrina also won many national and international merits of certificates awards of excellence instituted for young scholars of classical literature and poetry during her studies.
Dr Sabrina Lei has recently produced a fine Italian translation of one of the UAE’s well known poets Dr Shihab Ghanem’s Waves, a superb collection of his love poems under the title Onde (Tawasul Europe, 2018). Some of her other widely acclaimed works are Soliloquio, the Italian translation of the South Asian poet Perveen Shakir’s Khud Kalami, and La stagione dell’ amore delle mandorle amare e delle piogge tarde, Mazhar ul Islam’s celebrated collection of poetic short stories called The Season of Love, Bitter Almonds and Delayed Rains (Jay Editore, Rome, 2014). She has recently produced the Italian translation of the Indian novelist-cum-poet Mirza Muhammad Hadi Rusva’s (1857-1931) Umrao Jaan Ada.
As the director of Tawasul Europe Centre for Research and Dialogue, based in Rome, Dr Sabrina Lei is actively involved in building peace, cultural and human ties across religions and nations through works of literature, poetry, philosophy and respectful dialogue of civilisations.
Dr Sabrina is currently in the process of completing her own collection of poems on themes of love and universal peace, to be published in early 2019. She has also recently completed the Italian translation of Kamala Surayya’s highly spiritual poems devoted to God called ‘Allah’.
