In the Garden

By Idris Mears

i hope that if i am honored

with the garden of ease

i won’t lounge all day

on a silken couch

but have vital hands in loamy soil

with sun on a supple back

feeling no nagging distraction

from an uneasy self

or run free as an innocent boy

chasing friends through the bushes

in the expanse of child time

and retire to bed

enjoying being

properly tired out
