What Used To Be
Hear my story, set aside your worries and woes.
For I once held the sand between your toes.
You ever wonder what the world used to be?
Acquiring this world was not so easy.
Your youth saved you from a broken place.
Be proud to call this city your birthplace.
Today you witness a painter’s sky,
And feel the warm breeze of late July.
History has been our greatest mentor,
So, we strived for our land- to save and restore.
And in the skies today birds roam carefree
As the sun shines and enlightens, you and me.
Floral palaces were works of fiction,
But we turned reality into a movie depiction.
We saved every flower, every leaf, every tree,
It’s our due diligence, our responsibility.
Our homes were once dark places,
But green lights held us in safe embraces.
Cherish the snowy nights of christmas eve,
Families waiting together for gifts to receive.
We nearly burnt our future away
But our sustainability goals brought us a new day.
So today trees sway in Earth’s every breath,
As we nursed our Earth back to full health.
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
We recycled trash to the best of our endeavours.
We drank our coal thinking there is more.
But now we live in a green haven we strived for.
You may think my words are out of a legend.
But i implore you, i witnessed it firsthand.
We rose from the ashes of our old way of life,
And we turned our home to an Earthly Paradise.
