A Song For Love
Why do you want to kill me?
And shoot all your arrows into my heart?
And plan for nights to set your traps in my path?
I am a human being like you
I wake up every morning full of joy and longing
Like you, listening to the chirping of birds;
The songs of joy;
Like you, having fun on earth,
Planting roses,
So why do you plant mines in it?
And why, when I extend my hand to you, you pull your trigger and shake my hand with a shot!
I am a human being like you who dreams of love and a green earth
Why do we smile when children look at us?
They thought the earth was beautiful and peaceful until they grew up:
And found that Earth was hell and wars and a legacy of hatred and skulls
The children ask us about them:
Why were they killed?
And why did you leave behind you a mountain of grudges?
Children search the uniform of a dead person, and only find the picture of a child waiting for his dad!
And a lock of the beloved wife.
They find nothing but the look of two accusing eyes,
Asking this killer: Did you think – as you pulled the trigger – that you would kill a human being like you? Who laughs like you, and cries like you?
A person with two eyes and two lips and dreams like you?
A person who feels joy, fear, sadness, love and other people?
Who could bring the joy of Eid into the heart of a bereaved woman?
Waiting for the sound of knocking;
The hoped for child may be born!
And here is a widow who weeps silently,
tortured by remembrance,
sifting through her clothes: this is the wedding dress,
And this is our wedding photo,
And the child points to him and asks: When will dad return?
You look into his eyes and see a tear!
Be whatever you wish, but don’t be the murdrerer or the murdered,
Be the lover and the adored
And disagree with my opinion by opinion, not by fire.
The ashes of fire leave embers of hatred that can rekindle a flame by a foolish wind
We shall plant from all the ashes of the earth flowers and fields of love in which the sun frolics, and the night sings, thus its stars and nightingales dance.
Put a rose in your pocket
From love in your heart, you grow and shade the roof of the earth
All humanity sings a song of peace on earth for love and man
I am a human being looking for the human in you
And I am the plant of love in all parts of the earth at all times;
I am the Torah, I am the Bible, I am the Qur’an
I am Man whom the Most Merciful honoured
I am a human being looking for the human in you!
