Can We Not Coexist ?
What a massive universe we live in
It even makes the whole world look small
In fact, some people might ask
“Does anything we do matter?”
The planet we live on is so tiny and insignificant
And so are the various actions we commit to each other
What significance does our coexisting hold?
Imagine what future generations might think
After we’re all gone
What would they think after seeing what we’ve done to ourselves
People’s minds are filled with anger, corruption,
And hate the rips my heart to pieces
Why is it that we can’t all coexist?
Why must we use the lives of our own kind
Innocents, and children who wanted no part in war
Left on the streets to die
All to feed the hunger for money and power of the higher-ups
The same people who couldn’t care less about the lives lost
If you look deep enough into anyone’s hearts
All they want is peace
We all equally share the dream of coexistence
So why is it so hard to make it true?
Do they not care enough?
Are they so hungry for power that they’re content?
Content to live in a world where people are shot down?
They see the same things I see
But how do they not feel the same way I feel?
Are they blind?
Or do they just cover their eyes to avoid the guilt?
If I could send one last message to humanity
It would be this
It’s not too late
We’re still able to change our ways
So let’s do it
Let us contribute to creating, and maintaining peace and harmony
The same peace and harmony that we all strive for, and die for
The same peace and harmony that will shine a light
For the next generation, and the many generations after them
All it takes is one step
Do you still think our actions are insignificant?
About The Poet
Bilal Khalid is a student at the American School of Creative Science in Nad Al Sheba. He is greatly inspired by sports and writing. His favorite sports are basketball and football and he is honored to be part of the school team. His inspiration to write and specifically the selected poem comes from a deep-rooted belief that all humans are created equal and hence all should be given equal opportunities in a peaceful coexistence. His school ethos is another reason why he has such deep core belief as they are always encouraged to be considerate about those around us in our mission to develop future leaders whose character and morals are rooted in excellence and good value; always looking beyond their own needs. He is still exploring his options with careers and studies but one thing that he is certain about is, he wants to have a positive influence in his community by helping others.
