Sumood (Resilience)
And now, the teaching of Sumood
Sumood is not a character trait
Its not something you have or don’t
Sumood is something you cultivate.
Cultivation requires conscious Work & here are a few things to be conscious of, in your own process, of Sumood
Don’t say “I’m stressed”, “I’m sad”, “I’m mad” or “I’m upset”
Instead, witness the stress, observe the sadness, watch the madness and look upon the upset, as you would a passing traveler.
Be in your breath. When all else fails, remember “be in your breath”
Practice gratitude for everything. All is from Allah, the good and the bad. Otherwise you will be ungrateful for the sands that help you create your pearls.
Sit, or walk in mediation. You don’t need to be a Buddha to do so, but you do need The Buddha to show you how.
Connect with your community, and if you don’t have one, create your own. You are after all, the creating organ of the universe.
And last but not least, do physical exercise. I don’t care what its called, or how its done. Just move your body with the intention of feeling good after. Walk around a chair 99 times for all I care, just move.
