Syed Saklawi
Said Muhammad Salim Alsaqlawi was born in 1956 in the town of Sur in the Sultanate of Oman. He grew up in a family, where poetry was highly evaluated, along with History and Literature. Thus, both Omani poetry and popular poetry (especially that originating from the town of Sur) had a significant impact on his intellectual and artistic development.
After studying at the University of al-Azhar, in Cairo, where he graduated in 1979. Said Alsaqlawi completed a degree in urban and regional planning and engineering. Later, he studied at the University of Liverpool, where he obtained a Master’s degree in planning in 1992.
Said Alsaqlawi has published so far five collections of poems: The Hymn of Hope (Tarnimat al-Amal, 1975), You are my Fate (Anti Li Qadar, 1985), Wings of the day ( Ajnihat al-Nahar, 1999), Song of the Water (2004) and The Commandments of Qaid al-Ard (Wassiya Qaid al-Ard, 2010, 2017, 2019).
He is also the author of several national songs as, for example, the hymn written for the Omani army. Collections of chosen poems have been translated into several languages, as English and French, respectively in 1996 and 2017, while The Song of the Water has been translated into French and published in two editions (2017, 2019). Some poems have also been translated into Spanish and Urdu. Worthy of special mention is the Spanish translation of Wassiya Qaid al-Ard, published under the title “Testamentos sobre tierras.”
Dr Said Alsaqlawi is also co-author of several relevant publications as, for example, “Oman in History” and “Volume in honor of Amir Khalid al-Faysal.” He also attended several conferences, seminars, and public meetings both in Oman and abroad. Dr Alsaqlawi also received mentions of honor and prices from several cultural institutions, both Arab and International.
Mr.Saqlawi holds the office of president of the society of Omani Writers, and Vice-president of the Union of Arab Writers. Worthy of special mention is the study of Dr Muhammad Abdurrahman entitled “The structure of the poetry of Said Alsaqlawi (Language, image, and rhythm)”, edited in 2007.

The Commandments of Qaid al-Ard is the last collection of poems of Said Alsaqlawi translated into the English language , French and Spanish . The poet swift from an intimate voice, almost whispering to the reader’s personal experiences of sensitive and highly delicate beauty, to a coral dimension where the artist sings the love and the proudness for his Homeland, Oman, and his both Arab History and Identity openly.’ Alsaqlawi poems, along with their pressing rhythm and charming melody, bring the reader in a spellbound atmosphere, where the sounds get merged with perfumes, aromas, and feelings emanating from every single poem, trapping the senses and carrying the imagination in a remote place, far off in time and space.
