Sign Language
By Laxmi Shanker Bajpai
They talk in groups of four or five,
In sign language
It is amazing to see them give
Form to words with their hands and fingers
With such dexterity
Immersed as they are
In deep conversations
A variety of expressions rise on their faces
Their conversations create an
Atmosphere of wonderment
Leaving passers-by amazed,
As they whisper among themselves,
In words expressing a mixture of emotions
Ranging from sympathy to derision:
As one mutters, “They are dumb”
For they can only see the speechlessness.
And are unable to hear
Life as it bubbles with joy
In their conversations.
