We move from yesterday toward tomorrow
Gingerly we place step after step
The only safe choice would be to stand still
But this would not still our hunger and thirst
Nor our daily need for affection
As soon as we escape one danger
We thus move toward another
Blindly, although we see everything
Our questioning and our longing looks
Meet the eyes of those who know the right path
No better than we know it ourselves
Cluelessly we follow the tracks
Of the clueless; other clueless ones
Come to follow us reluctantly
And each new tread can be a mistake
In spite of all we want and all we know
We go ahead, because we have to go
