Mother’s Song
By Dr. Daisaku Ikeda
Read by Tomoko Kikuchi
Cradling a child, sweat streaming,
The noble emissary of sacred beginnings,
The radiant presence of days fulfilled.
Let us praise this mother.
Guarding the unnamed castle,
A small sun unchanging,
Illuminating that person, and this one too,
Soon becoming a great mother of happiness.
Ah, overcoming even sorrow,
Mother’s prayers, earnestly,
Beyond the hill of lamentation,
People of the castle, there are smiles.
Mother is gentle, yet strong,
In her heart, the white lily blooms.
Forgetting the aging years,
Protecting even the heavens, this dance.
A melody of honor, the mother’s song.
