“The poet’s words can generate harmony and guide humanity towards a peaceful world in which the dignity of life is respected.” Dr. Daisaku Ikeda, Founding President of SGI.
The Poetic Heart traces its humble beginnings to when SGI-Gulf, in association with Dubai Knowledge Village and Dubai International Academic City hosted a gathering of poets across the region for a poetry symposium, under the banner of ‘The Poetic Heart: Connecting Humanity’. The first edition of this event that aimed at uniting the hearts and minds of all participants through poetry, was held on February 16th, 2012, and was graced by the presence of seven distinguished poets and a world musician.
Thereafter, The Poetic Heart has been held annually as a celebration of love for poetry rooted in local tradition. It is a multi-lingual event with poems in as many as 15 global languages, based on themes of peace, friendship, tolerance and human dignity. Over the years, The Poetic Heart has brought together 73 international poets, 21 notable musicians and 159 school students, including students with determination from 4 institutions – all with the collective goal of spreading the essence of poetry across society.
