From the Beginning of the History of Wheat

by. Ms. Shaikha Al-Mutairi

From the beginning of the history of wheat

Till the first song of bread

Asks a hungry child

Can I have a loaf of warmth?

Can I ride a horse of light?

Can I have a window which I can open

To close my broken one?

From the beginning of the history of coldness

Till the first song of rain

Asks a child,

His umbrella his palms,

Can I have a shirt

To live in

With my fears and forlorness?

And in which in the cold

My arms can live in?

Can I have

A roof of Dreams

Under whose sky

I can gather myself alone

And sleep?
