Wed Mahmoud is a grade 12 student poet from Al Khaleej National School. A humble 18-year- old Palestinian, an aesthete, nature lover and a literature enthusiast, she was always mesmerized by the English language and how you can display beauty through a simple string of words.
Her source of inspiration is how poetry and literature and how they can gracefully convey emotions. She writes poetry for the sake of sharing her passion and expressing her sentiments.
Wed has found poetry to be the only way in which she is able to speak about her feelings, and by sharing it she always hopes that she has spoken for everyone that shares her perspectives.
STORIES BEHIND EYELIDS
Quoted “eyes are windows to the soul”.
Pupils tasteful of onyx coal,
Treacherous as a summer kiss, but
As long as the storm never lasts the bliss
Have they seen what eyelids confess?
They carry as heavy as distress,
The bulky weight they repress
Upon their delicate embrace
Tearful stories we cannot retrace
Written atop a pastel face,
Dark cuticles embroidered with tender Nile veins
Buried beneath are shameful deigns
They protrude from an overwhelming fervor
To the beat of a pulsing ardor
Wrinkles like calm ridges, utter
Louder than eyes can sputter.

This, in tandem with a curriculum infused with social justice themes, allows children to develop the skills of global students who are ready for every challenge and opportunity.
