Safia Ahmed is a student of Al Khaleej National School studying in Grade 9. She find joy and pleasure in expressing her feelings through words of poetry.
She finds significance in a few, yet expressing words. A tune of enthusiasm streaming out onto the pages, words that stream into each other to deliver a message.
Safia has participated in various events including AKNS Talks, where she talked about judgment and how words can affect people in so many ways. Apart from that, she enjoys English literature and writing and aspires to major in poetry and English.
She believes that poetry is the only way to tell a story that can be felt.”
Words (by Safia Ahmad)
Words, oh words, worst bullets of all,
For they don’t physically hurt
Yet scar your soul
A scar that can’t be healed
Or pushed away nor sealed
Words, oh words quickest bullets of all,
Once out, they are never back
No matter where you shoot’em
Always headed to the heart, oh them.
Words, heaviest bullets of all,
Spitting out of the mouth…
Destructive, repulsive,
With harmful breath, impulsive.
Words, darkest bullets of all,
Some left unsaid, unread
Yet… the heart bled.
Words, oh words,
Poison to the heart,
With nothing to cover the scars
About the School
At GEMS Al-Khaleej National School (AKNS) we resolutely believe that success stems from exceptional teaching practices, attentive administration, wonderful families and responsible students.
We have been bringing out the best in each student since 1992 by promoting a healthy balance between Islamic values, cultural heritage and 21st century learning skills. In order to achieve this we have established a culture of integrity that supports academic success and creates a community of lifelong learners. This, in tandem with a curriculum infused with social justice themes, allows children to develop the skills of global students who are ready for every challenge and opportunity.
