About the Poet

A student from Grade 11 studying in The Oxford School, Dubai.

Poetry has always been of interest to her. One that she developed over time by changing her view on life. She gets inspired by all sorts of things: whether it’s the vivid hues of the sky when the sun is rising or the sound of rain or a lonely little ladybug trekking its way up a leaf. Good food and great friends are all she needs to turn those inspirations into reality.

Fire

Hidden deep within layers of self-doubt,

There rumbles a gentle fire in isolation

Oh it will never burn-out!

For that fire is called determination

It stays there; strong and true

Keeping you steadfast; free from hesitation

It is a valuable companion, through and through

For that fire is called determination

It calls you up when you fall deep down,

Your success; it’s only destination

It helps you wipe off that silly little frown,

For that fire is called determination

When you need a shoulder on which to cry,

When you are in need of a little motivation

When all your plans go awry,

All you need is a dose of determination

So believe in yourself and breathe in that fire,

Break the barriers of your imagination

Trust me, you can achieve all that you desire,

For that fire inside you, it’s called determination
