Jared Maxilom is a student at Far Eastern Private School, Al Shahba. He enjoy listening to podcasts and practicing yoga.
Jared enjoys challenging himself and facing things headstrong because of his endless craving for constant learning. Musical Lyricism, Modern Art and Utopian/Dystopian Fiction or perhaps Speculative Fiction, inspires him to write poetry.
He fell in love with poetry because it allowed him to freely express his thoughts behind the power of phrases and words.
The ability to do so allowed him to soar through delicate subjects and see the beauty or importance of anything that invoked presence or relevance most of which are overlooked by people of his age.
About his poem:
“In the eye of the storm” is a piece that he has written with self-reflection, a realization that even the most terrible and terrifying things that lurk in this world are peaceful and beautiful in the eyes of the beholder, and that’s where we practice tolerance and acceptance that all of us have differences that we need to set aside to be able to come together as one.
In The Eye Of The Storm
It has been etched upon the bones of our ancestors
To be wary of the calm on the eye of the storm
Amidst, outward of all its riveting chaos
Its eye remains placid, serene, in halcyon.
Like the world today in every chaotic instance
There is a peace that lies in trance
Waiting from the farthest of distance,
Anticipating to be glimpsed, at the slightest of chance
Peace, is a prey waiting to be hunted,
A predator wanting to be fed
Like the shallowest and deepest of waters
It is smoldering calm and enticingly relentless
Peace, Fluid as Harmony, ebbs and flows
In every malignance and amity
From oneness to otherness
From perceiving to judging
Harmony, has and has always been a matter of perception,
An intangible instrument of congruence and perfection,
Ironic, for there is harmony in argument,
In imperfection and in sentiment
In the environment, it has always been evident
That the role of every organism
Contributes to the peace and harmony of ecosystems,
A concise example for humanity’s desires
And the desire for such, utopia, can be called delirium
But one is not here to critique
Instead, is present to permeate tolerance,
Tolerance, a medium that oscillates in the thin line and margins
Of how one should receive the thoughts, ideologies and philosophies of others,
For such there is Harmony and Peace in Diversity,
And there is also Harmony and Peace in Division.
