The Poetic Heart 2016 Edition
In 2016, SGI-Gulf in association with ‘The Cultural and Scientific Association’ (The Nadwa) in Dubai, Knowledge Village and Dubai International Academic City presented the 5th edition of The Poetic Heart. This two-day poetry and music festival was held in February and was a huge success. Emirates NBD was the sole sponsor of this event.

13 adult poets, including George Yamazawa, Shamsudeen Sarju, Donatella Bisutti, Prof. Thuraya Arrayed, Al Hanoof Muhammad, Angelica Santa Olaya, Ghalia Khoja, Lakshmi Shankar Vajpeyi and Abdelqadir Al Kutayabi were invited on stage to share their poems. Musicians of The Poetic heart 2016
A soulful rendition by Sharif Maghraby on his acoustic guitar moved the audience. SGI-Gulf’s chorus band Naseem performed the lively song ‘Dare to Believe’. The Winchester School band comprising 35 students, ranging from junior to high school, performed a composition based on the renowned ‘Cup Song’, popularized by the movie ‘Pitch Perfect’. The band performance included xylophones, recorders, African drums, shakers, jazz drums, electric guitar, violin, keyboard, tambourine and trumpet.
28 year old Sami Khalil from Al Manzil enthralled the audience with his talented performance on the drums. Vivasvat, a talented 18 year old student from the SNF Development Centre performed on the keyboard. Singer and song-writer Esther Eden Fernandes performed at the event as well.Musicians at the Event.

The auditorium was filled with the lively chatter of 342 young and hopeful students representing 18 different schools. 16 budding young student poets inclusive of 3 special need students presented their poetry. Click here to read their profiles and compositions.
