The darkness beams with eminence exclaiming its power over our life
Roses completely deprived of their sweetest scent
Every petal ripping apart like a broken heart
an ombre of the darkest colors ever known to man
Shades of hopelessness and sorrow latches onto us like a disease

When your world starts to crumble, leaving you feeling like it’s beyond repair
When the storm brewing within you, is triumphant in shattering you piece by piece
your mind becomes the most vicious place to wander
When all hope seems lost in the aether,
the presence of faith seems inconceivable

Then awakens the undying power that lives deep within us
The fire that exists to ignite our soul
Navigates it’s way through the perplexing maze of melancholy feelings
It holds onto us, like humans holding on for dear life
Permeating the possibility of victory amidst the conundrum that’s known as despair

We rise from the shattered pieces like a phoenix
With an armor of faith and the visage of a warrior
Prepared to conquer an uphill battle that the paradox known as ‘life’ tosses onto our shoulders

About the Poet 

Maahika Banerjee, is a Grade 13 student from The Westminster School, Dubai

She’s always had a passion for the arts including literature and storytelling. Some of her favorite writers include William Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, Maya Angelou, and Emily Dickinson. She has also started writing her own collection of poems, to dive into the deep unexplored corners of her mind to create beautiful stories from scratch.
