Friends Come and Go But Not Really
Years ago, when I was little
I used to gaze across a view which was a
A sight most thrilling,
There was a river that flowed
With grace unparalleled by the greatest dancers.
It sloshed around in the cold
Mornings of the field that I grew up in.
The flowers were always there,
The sky was always blue,
but the thing that delights my heart
is that one day, there was you.
I saw you skipping and
Making friends with the field that only ever knew me.
Jealous eyes caught your attention and then there were
Two strangers but if you had eyes of a child, there were three.
It felt like my privacy was snatched away.
The thought of being accompanied in my lonely world made me retch.
Oh, best friend!
I hated you when we first met.
However, if distance makes the heart grow fonder,
Closeness gives it coziness
And soon down the river ran two paper boats.
Racing through muddled reflections of our faces.
Sunrise after sunrise
We traipsed down the field
it felt strange to hold hands,
So, he held the cuff of my sleeve.
But I didn’t ask about him much
And that’s my only regret
Because one day I went to my childhood,
And it was just the field that I met.
I heard he moved away
To another town or so
I heard that things weren’t great
With his family at home.
Although I am sure that I will find him
And I will knock on his door
And I’ll remember old times
Till I can’t hold back tears anymore.
He was my first friend,
and to tell the truth, my only.
And the reason I love him so?
I lied about liking the lonely.
